For those who have no or little electronic music machines, here's something that might give you all you need when wanting to -get into- music making the somewhat easy way.
Merely a sequencer would form the base for the system. If I remember correctly the Reason is not similar to Cubase or such. Reason costs. If I would have to buy something I would start buying from Absynth2 -- because Boris uses it. I would also check some VST-plugin-capable sequencer and then get many free VST plugins. Linux has 50+ good free software: sequencers, editors, synths, drum machines. Plenty of plugins. There is even a synth similar to Halion, capable of playing GigaSamples. To get taste, you could try out Audacity at "audacity.sourceforge.net" because it works also in MS Windows and Mac. Eventide Harmonizer is quite advanced modular synth. One could try Pd and find all Pd-plugins to it. Purely for Linux one can find a few additional modular synths. http://www.pure-data.org http://pure-data.sourceforge.net http://pure-data.org/community/ (for example songs?) Lack of presets is the weakest point of open source software. Open source MIDI samplers are better because one can buy samples if noting else is found. -*- I hope we have at least two months time for making possible Planet Dada look-a-likes. Regards, Juhana
Sure... There are many options in getting started with making music on a PC/Mac. I prefered Sonar but have switched to Cubase for the VST options. and yes Absynth rocks!! - As for the Dada Remix... it's just a thought and I hope some will find the time to get into it and produce something. How it's done is up to you all. (if Chris manages to do one with his guitar... cewl :-) With patience I await the results. Rene
Lol...I might give it a try, but the guitar things have to be some kind of "addon" for a full remix with other sounds...etc... I remember one of you posting the scale that was used in Planet Dada, do you mind posting it again? Cheers Chris ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rene" <t013463@tip.nl> To: "The moon: beautiful. I noticed while listening to the end of the seb fontaine mix http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/dance/fontaine/tracklistings.shtml there is a mix of Yello's I love , quoted as Phil Kieran - "I Love You" (Yoshitoshi) it has the bass and "i love you" samples from Yello. you can listen to it on the above link , by clicking on listen to the show again and forwarding towards the end of the mix Dan
Oh gawd I hate trance...but I am attracted to Yello like a fish to a big fat night crawler... So do I read that right, this DJ guy played over twenty hours?! I have heard of these marathon sets but have had no desire to witness one. I'm just too old ( and hopefully wise ) for that kind of thing anymore. -----Original Message----- From: yello-bounces+tourguide=austexecotours.com@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:yello-bounces+tourguide=austexecotours.com@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Daniel Bodenham Sent: Friday, February 06, 2004 1:30 PM To: The moon: beautiful. you know... back in the day Trance seems to mean a different thing. Seems these days it's dancefloor oriented and very repetitive and boring. To me trance is some old stuff like Cosmic Baby, Dance 2 Trance and The Orb. How in the world did it become pointless headbanning repetitive dance-floor ecstasy trinpin music? julz On Feb 6, 2004, at 6:48 PM, Tasha wrote:

I just checked out the Cosmic Baby website. Neat. That is what I have understood as Ambient. But I have only learned all of these electronic subcategories in the past five years or so. And there ain't no pill in this world that could make me like today's trance crap. I figure that's what my son will end up just loving, because I hate it and can't comprehend it at all. Don't you just hate it that all your favorite music is on the "oldies" radio stations! AUGH! -----Original Message----- From: yello-bounces+tourguide=austexecotours.com@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:yello-bounces+tourguide=austexecotours.com@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Julian Sent: Friday, February 06, 2004 9:02 PM To: The moon: beautiful. Commercialism I guess, I've been listening to a lot of material by the Future Sound Of London from 1993/94 - over ten years back, and it still holds up well compared to anything in todays electronic genres. Music technology hasn't really evolved as much in the last 10 years from 94-04, than it did from 84-94 much of the dance music in todays mixes could of been created 10 years ago easily with the technology around then. dan ps Ether! man can;t reply to your address, send me My icq number if you still have it, ,as my hard drive died and I lost my contact details. - luckily my yello mixes were backed up
Now making music has become even more frustrating... Why can't I come up with something good when I have a similar set of tools (software set), like Boris has... oh sigh and aww... the pain the agony. Rene
