and I'm fairly sure that the program will have been an ITV network UK chart show, probably called the Chart Show. I glimpsed the placement as 73 (?) but the ITV commercial TV) network used a different chart to the BBC. The chart show went through several incarnations, but has always had those "snippets of useless information" rolling across the screen and even cd:uk (today's title) has the same. That is the giveaway.

This nails it, must have been called The Roxy originally, before getting the graphics makeover which became the chart show. The dates given are correct for the music in question.
