OK, They are LOW frequency terrorists, I just put a new woofer in the left channel and now I cannot play it loud!!! But afterall it is a funky start of a journey of 30 years of Yello in 12 traks ( a little bit too short)... And the last one is a meditation around the world in almost 9 minutes. Have fun... ----- Origineel bericht ----- Van: Mark Pulley <mrpulley@lizzy.com.au> Datum: dinsdag, oktober 13, 2009 14:44 Onderwerp: Re: [Yello] Touch cd review Aan: "The moon: beautiful. I've had the new album for a day, so I thought I'd join in the fun! Overall I enjoyed the album (I gave it 5/5 at http://www.discogs.com/release/1951753 ). I won't comment on every track (as just writing "great track" is
a bit obvious).
The CD seems to be missing some credits. It sounds like Heidi's vocals at the end of The Expert, and Dieter at the end of Till Tomorrow.
Good to see (hear) Beat Ash is back. All we need now is Chico Hablas
and Ernst Gamper and we'll have a proper reunion! (If we ask nicely,
Carlos might even come!)
The Expert - I first heard the album on my work computer at the end of the day (on tinny speakers) while doing paperwork, so missed the fun
of the introduction - I didn't hear it properly the first time, so I
had a fun surprise when I got home.
Out Of Dawn - the low string parts in the middle reminded me of Sweet
Thunder sped up.
Bostich - starts of well, with a good introduction, then it just fizzles out as Bostich starts. It sounds like that introduction was
just pasted on for no good reason, although it is the same tempo as
the rest of Bostich, and there is an electronic "Everybody" at 0:18.
The main section of the song is a bit of a disappointment - nothing
like the original!
Till Tomorrow - I think we'll have to add this to our list of "song
titles that contain the artist's name" (along with "Le Secret Farida", "Santiago" and "Point Blank")! Just how did Till Brönner do that flugelhorn slide at 2:13? Till must be one of the best things about
this album.
Part Love - I had been wondering what the title referred to, until I
heard the line "this is your love part" (part = acting role)
Vertical Vision - The final muffled chord reminded me of "Tool In Rose" which also contains deliberately muted parts. I found myself humming the bass line to this while going to my car today - fortunately no-one was around (but now you all know *blush*).
Takla Makan - On my first listen (at home) I happened to walk past the CD player and noticed it was already up to 7 minutes into the track -
it hadn't seemed that long. I'm curious about Dorothee's credit for
'flute' - the instruments played sound more like recorders.
I also got Carlos Perón's latest offering (El Nuevo (Carlos Perón vs
Solar Lords): Pitigrilli) in the same parcel. According to their MySpace page it "sounds like Yello should sound like". Well, I'm glad
Yello doesn't sound like this - all the tracks sounded the same, and
it concluded with a medley of all the tracks performed live, where it
becomes even more obvious that the tracks all sound the same. I don't
think this will be getting much time in my CD player!
