For those who have no or little electronic music machines, here's something that might give you all you need when wanting to -get into- music making the somewhat easy way.
Merely a sequencer would form the base for the system. If I remember correctly the Reason is not similar to Cubase or such. Reason costs. If I would have to buy something I would start buying from Absynth2 -- because Boris uses it. I would also check some VST-plugin-capable sequencer and then get many free VST plugins. Linux has 50+ good free software: sequencers, editors, synths, drum machines. Plenty of plugins. There is even a synth similar to Halion, capable of playing GigaSamples. To get taste, you could try out Audacity at "audacity.sourceforge.net" because it works also in MS Windows and Mac. Eventide Harmonizer is quite advanced modular synth. One could try Pd and find all Pd-plugins to it. Purely for Linux one can find a few additional modular synths. http://www.pure-data.org http://pure-data.sourceforge.net http://pure-data.org/community/ (for example songs?) Lack of presets is the weakest point of open source software. Open source MIDI samplers are better because one can buy samples if noting else is found. -*- I hope we have at least two months time for making possible Planet Dada look-a-likes. Regards, Juhana
