March 25, 2022 We are pleased to report that the Woodland Hills City Attorney has worked to resolve allegations of misconduct against him with the Office of Professional Conduct and the Utah State Bar. As a result of his corrections and clarifications, the Office of Professional Conduct was able to dismiss the problems and issues he faced. In responding to these allegations the City Attorney explained, corrected, and clarified several public statements he made at various City Council meetings. In correcting and clarifying his public statements, the City Attorney indicated that his public statements were not intended as statements of material facts; rather, he was merely advancing his own legal opinions and posture. So, we now better understand that when the City Attorney makes a public statement often he is only sharing his legal opinions and arguments to advance his own legal position rather than stating material facts. We are relieved to learn that the City Attorney was able to clarify and correct his public statements and resolve the allegations of misconduct with the Office of Professional Conduct and the Utah State Bar. In some instances it was determined that his alleged false statements of material fact were "either not factual statements, immaterial, or not knowingly made." With respect to inaccurate statements made by the City Attorney it was found that, "these statements appear to have been mistakenly made, not knowingly." The residents of Woodland Hills deserve integrity and ethical conduct from our City Attorney and we are grateful that these allegations have been resolved and dismissed. As residents, we are now made aware that public statements of the City Attorney are not necessarily statements of material fact; instead, the City Attorney may merely be advancing his own legal opinions or posture.
