New Fire Truck in WH To keep current with National Fire Protection Agency requirement and keep our City safe, the city of Woodland Hills began the process three years ago to acquire a new fire engine. On June 15, 2023 we drove the brand new top of the line fire engine out of the Pierce Manufacturing fire engine plant in Bradenton, FL. This truck was built from the ground up as specifically ordered by our city. It was designed to fight both Residential as well as Wildland fires. It has 4-wheel drive, it can be moving while pumping water. It carries 750 gallons of water. It allows for foam from five different hose lines. The city of Woodland Hills is in great shape for the next 10-15 years with our current line up of fire equipment. If you have questions about the new truck or want to schedule a time to come see it, please reach out to the Fire Chief, Ted Mickelsen at (385) 406-7970. ** Tall Grass Increases Fire Risk -- Please Trim ASAP ------------------------------------------------------------ With the increased snowpack this past winter, we have seen rapid growth of vegetation around the city. It will dry out soon and is an increased fire risk for all of us. It's important for residents to trim grass (and weeds) starting at the road to 30 ft inside your property. Please trim to a height not greater than six inches. (City Code 5-4-2e) ( https://woodlandhills-ut.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=2ffdbabb491f2799... ) Why? If someone pulls over (or if they are dragging chains or anything else sparks) fire would spread rapidly. Questions: Call Chief Ted Michelson at 385-406-7970 ** Chipping has Ended! ------------------------------------------------------------ We appreciate your support for this program. It is making a huge difference in our city. We want to thank you, our WH fire department volunteers, and the UT Co fire crews for assisting in this effort! If you have additional limbs to remove, please take them to the Green Waste Facility at 600 W 700 N in Springville. Noxious Weed Removal This summer, we are seeing more weeds because of the high snowpack we received this winter. We need your help in removing the noxious weeds, specifically White Top. These are weeds that are non-native and can seriously hurt the environment. In WH they spread quickly, killing the wildflowers and other native foliage. There are several different methods to eliminate these noxious weeds including mechanical removal with shovels and mowers, herbicide use and biological controls. We encourage WH residents to learn more about how to control the weeds to help keep our mountain healthy. For more information, Utah State University Extension has aninformational video ( https://woodlandhills-ut.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=2ffdbabb491f2799... ) explaining how to control the White Top. If you have any questions, please call the city offices 801-423-3900 ** More Mosquitos this Year! ------------------------------------------------------------ The Utah County Health Department performs mosquito abatement each year, but this year the increased snowpack, water, and subsequent flooding has causedan influx of mosquitoes ( https://woodlandhills-ut.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=2ffdbabb491f2799... ) due to rising water levels. When mosquitoes are in a dry area, the eggs can remain viable for up to 20 years! When those larvae are then introduced to water, they will become active and hatch, which is what is happening with the mosquito larvae in Utah County that have stayed dry for so long. It is estimated that there are eight years' worth of eggs that were dry and are now in moist water environments where they can hatch throughout UT Co. Make sure you protect your family and pets by using an effective mosquito repellent of your choice. ** Sorry!
