Star party Cedar Hills Elem. (N. Utah County) next Thurs. -- need help
I'm planning to host a "star" party (gonna be mostly moon and bright objects instead) for Cedar Hills Elementary school this coming Thursday the 13th, weather permitting, and could use a couple of extra hands/telescopes if you can spare an hour or two that night, I (and the school) would be grateful. More details later; please RSVP to me if you can help. TIA, /Rich
Richard, Since I live in Cedar Hills, will attend and bring neighbors with scopes. Do you or anyone else have a "Star Party" video if we are clouded out? Can use Google Earth sky view [click on saturn icon in tool bar] If needed. If we can get the school and Heritage park flood lights turned off that would help. I will look at the situation tonite. School is East of Cedar Hills WalMart & Lone Peak High School on Cedar Hills Drive. Gary Wallace 801 785-4797 On Fri, Feb 7, 2014 at 10:00 AM, Richard Tenney <retenney@yahoo.com> wrote:

I could come but the weather report looks unpromising. Is there a go/no go time or an alternate plan? Quoting G Wall <deltameta5@gmail.com>:

I don't have an alternate date (yet) or plan; as of now it appears that the weather is going to kill this. I'll let you know if that changes before Thursday. /R ________________________________ From: John M. Many years ago now I had a slide presentation that I used; but that was on an old computer and it's surely out of date (assuming I could still find it). If someone wants to take this on, I'd be willing to help, however, I recently started a new job and don't have a lot of spare time for such a project at the moment. Thankfully the web is full of good images (hubble, apod, etc.) and there's no shortage of wow slides or material if one of you has the interest...? The contact person I've been talking to is actually the school principal, Jeremy Brunner. I don't know which (if any) teachers may be involved. /R ________________________________ From: G Wall <deltameta5@gmail.com> To: Richard Tenney <retenney@yahoo.com>; Utah Valley Astronomy Association <uvaa@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 11, 2014 10:16 AM Subject: Re: [UVAA] Star party Cedar Hills Elem. Hello, Central Elementary in PL Grove has a planetarium. Fabric dome for a dozen kids. That school has the Space Center program. Also now the old white manila Chapel has about 5 space ships. This is located 1+ mile west of MT Timp temple. I will contact them to see if they want to work with Cedar Ridge Elem. "Discovery Space Center" The principal will call me back. I'm in favor of waiting a week or so so we are more organized. Can anyone hook up a good scope to a camera and send it to a computer. Can project that to a screen. These schools have a tight schedule curriculum wise. I've done seismic demos, . . . have to do it when they are studying that. I can do things during the daytime, would need someone with me that knows more. Gary Wallace N7JZN On Tue, Feb 11, 2014 at 10:39 AM, Richard Tenney <retenney@yahoo.com> wrote:

Hello, I Spoke with the Principal and a teacher. Not going to do Star Party this week. I recommended the sooner the better due to sundown times. Is one hour after sundown late enough to start, ~ 7PM When is Orion visible? There's some nebula etc that are cool. What planets are visible? You have seen painted maps of USA on playground. . . Why not do that with constellations? Based on H L Reyes book The Stars: A New Way to See Them. http://www.amazon.com/The-Stars-New-Way-Them/dp/0395248302 Reye took the stars and "connected the dots" so they make sensible pictures. I can coordinate event this if you want Gary On Tue, Feb 11, 2014 at 2:14 PM, G Wall <deltameta5@gmail.com> wrote:
