RE: [UVAA] Re: Weekend observing report from Gravel Pit & Rush Va lley
OK then - Here's my report; While I did'nt actually "log" anything, I had great success on both nights, Big Thanks to Rich for finding the chair - I forgot to pack my ladder (not good with a 20" Dob!)I was working through the Messier objects mostly and many of the galaxies were first time observations, with many WOW's and OOH's emanating from not only myself but my sister as well (her first star party and only her second time at an eyepiece) the highlights of Friday night had to be NGC 4565, an elongated eliptical galaxy that almost stetched from edge to edge in my 22 Nagler (thanks Rich!) and the GRS and moon transition on Jupiter - another first for me with the clarity and definition that was prevalent during the entire weekend. Saturday started out slowly due to some collimation woes - HUGE THANKS to John Ziegler for helping me out of that one...and the seeing turned out to be worth the wait as the level of detail available on the planets was just awesome. Saturn just gleamed - very white, Cassini was huge and there was a definate greenish tint at the upper pole, the Whirlpool, Black Eye, NGC 4565, all the galaxies had very high contrast and great definition, and I too had fun crusing thru Leo and getting several views with multiple galaxies in the eyepiece, just blew me away... of course, Orion kept pulling me back to it throughout the night - thanks to Daniel for introducing me to the subtleness required to grasp the E & F stars of the Trapezium. I had to force myself to pack up a little after 11pm - I would have stayed much later if it had not been for the long drive home and Church commitments the next morn. All in all, it was a great weekend and I am looking forward to the next opportunity to head back out, I am anxious to try out Wolf Creek, anybody taken a drive up that way yet? Till next time... -----Original Message----- From: uvaa-bounces+louis.griffin=hill.af.mil@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:uvaa-bounces+louis.griffin=hill.af.mil@mailman.xmission.com]On Behalf Of Steve Trottier Sent: Monday, March 22, 2004 10:57 AM To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com; uvaa@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [UVAA] Re: Weekend observing report from Gravel Pit & Rush Valley Not at all. It's fun reading observation reports. I wish more people would post them. Keep 'em coming! I hope you've caught up on your sleep by now.
