Does anyone have a recommendation on what digital camera(s) would be good for astrophotography? What features are important and what features are just nice to have? There have been a few times this year I have tried to take pictures with our digital camera, but it just wasn't designed for night-time photography. I have asked at a few camera stores, but their sales pitches end when I ask about astrophotography - they don't know; so I thought I would look for some real astrophotographers. Thanks, Dana Henriksen
Dana it depends on how much you want to spend Meade has one that comes with the software (for beginners) for about $300.00 Joe ----- Original Message ----- From: Dana Henriksen<mailto:DANA@novell.com> To: uvaa@mailman.xmission.com<mailto:uvaa@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, November 13, 2004 10:50 PM Subject: [UVAA] Astrophotography Does anyone have a recommendation on what digital camera(s) would be good for astrophotography? Dana There are 4 cameras that are mentioned a lot by astrophotographers. The Nikon Coolpix 4500 (about $400). There is a Coolpix 5000 but for various reasons astrophotograpers like the 4500. There is a Canon Reble 300D (about $900). There is a Nikon 70D (about $1000) and there is a Canon 10D (about $1500). You can guess which one is the best. Read about the Coolpix at this web site: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Coolpix4500Digital_Astro/ Get a lot of good information about astrophotography at this web site: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/digital_astro/ Go back and read the post heading for the last 6 months and you will see that your questions will have been asked several times.
