Hi Everyone! We want to buy a telescope for our 15 year old daughter for Christmas. We've already been through two of the cheaper ones and were very unhappy with both of them. I'd like to get some opinions on one we're considering. We don't want to waste our money again on something she won't enjoy. If anyone has the time to take a look at this and let me know what you think, I'd greatly appreciate it. http://www.telescope.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=365&itemType... Thanks for your help! Dottie
Hello, I think you meant: http://www.telescope.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=365&itemType... But in any case, Orion is a very good company and their line of Dobs is a good line indeed. Go for it. See the current issue of Sky & Telescope for their review. Patrick J Waterreus wrote:

Dottie, A good choice for a serious beginner scope; 6" f/8 is a classic, and should yield great views. I would recommend you get a telrad type finder for it as well as the 6x30 that comes with the scope. It's another $35-45 but well worth it in terms of ease of use and mitigating frustration finding faint objects. Before you run out and buy one however, my neighbor was telling me he wanted to sell their scope (it may belong to his wife actually), and I think it may be the same or a similar model. You might want to call him/her and see if (s)he's willing to make you a deal (assuming (s)he still has it): Ken & Julie Goggia (pronounced Go-Juh) 785~8463 Tell them Richard Tenney referred you. --- J Waterreus <jwaterr@comcast.net> wrote:
