Im only a newbie, and have had my scope for about 2 weeks. I find the EQ mount to be difficult to setup. the instructions provided are not very good. as for just TWISTING a knob, When I am trying to view MARS, I need to use both Knobs to keep it in sight. you can get a clock/Motor drive for some EQ mounts that will somewhat track without twisting a knob. but if I ever buy another scope, it will be a DOB. You can read the manual for a Celestron with EQ mounts online at www.telescopes.com <http://www.telescopes.com>. its a pdf you can download. When push comes to shove, its a personal choice. I would recommend however that if you are purchasing a scope larger than a 114mm you consider a heavy duty tripod/mount assembly. On 10/15/05, Clark D. Hall <pilot@ubtanet.com> wrote:
Is it hard to track objects with the Dob? I have not used one and it seems like it would be difficult to keep on target where with the equatorial you just twist a knob.

I would have to agree with Patrick, I have a 4.5 celestron EQ, the mount and tripod are not very sturdy and induce wobble. Celestron does have a good support though they are a little slow in getting back to you. I really like my scope but wish I had a Dob.

I have pretty much settled on six inch reflector with an equatorial

There seems to be some price difference between Orion, Meade, Celestron and Apollo for very similar features. Is one of the telescopes that much better quality than the others to justify the price?
