I will be brining my two kids on Saturday (11 and 7). Are there still plans to meet at the service station near Eagle Mountain at 6:00? I've never been up to the viewing area before, and the directions/map make it seem easy to get lost. BTW I played around with my scope last night (rebalancing, training the drive, etc..) and had better success with the AutoStar computer. I was able to take fuzzy pictures of Saturn, Jupitor as well as a couple of star clusters. M13 would have turned out really nice, except there were too many street lights and porch lights directly east of my driveway, which made it impossible to see well enough to focus. I don't anticipate that being a problem up in the mountains. I need to get some sort of filter to cover the LCD screen of my digital camera, because even at the lowest brightness setting, it's too bright for Astronomy. I read somewhere online that there is some sort of red foil you can get? Does anyone know of a local retailer in this area that sells something suitable to filter out an LCD screen? I still want to be able to zoom in on images and check the focus, I just don't want to ruin my night vision or that of others around me... On Wed, 2004-03-17 at 08:44, John and Lisa Zeigler wrote:
John and our kids will be there. I'm going to bring a flat screen 17" computer monitor and speakers for them to watch a DVD with, and I will bring lots of treats and cool aid for them to snack on because they get bored easily. If anyone is bringing kids, and you think they would like to watch the movies, bring a folding chair with you for them. I think it will be fairly warm this Saturday in the west dessert, but in case its not, make sure you dress your kids really warm and bring blankets, they get tired of the cold too easy!

Sounds about right. I'll be bringing my son and his friend on Saturday, I am trying to convince my brother and his son as well.
