Lou I don't know the conditions at the gravel pit, but I was fishing up in Midway with my son this past weekend and the mountains are still really covered with snow all around the valley and even where we were fihsing on the Provo River. I would suspect that you will have snow all around but the black top there will probably be free of snow. Dress for the cold and put on extra socks.
