You might consider some daytime training to get ready. Need to use those red headlamps to not ruin night vision. A laser pointer would help too. Binoculars mounted on a tripod work well. What planets are out there now? There is a planet west of the moon last nite. ?? If you are in range of cell phone coverage. I phone Google Earth / Sky works great. Aim it at the stars / constellation you are interested in and it tells you. Google Sky is a Saturn icon on tool bar of Google Earth. Includes Hubble, Spitzer etc images. ] Aim Google sky at the twin star in Big Dipper. Zoom out, there is a galaxy. Zoom out even more and another galaxy. I am a scout leader for a troop that is camping at Payson Lakes next week. We are considering doing the Astronomy Merit Badge and are wondering whether someone from your club might be willing to come to our camp one evening with a telescope for the boys to look through. I don't know if that's something you do, but I found your club through the Clark Planetarium and thought I'd ask.
