I
cannot go on Friday, and so was planning on going to the Saturday party. If it
does not happen, though, I'm sure there will be more. I am a relative newbie
(got my first telescope, an Orion 4.5 XT, last June) and am entirely
self-taught. The Astronomical League observing programs have given me things to
work towards, and I picked up the book Turn Left at Orion when I got my scope,
which taught me the basics. I have a good handle on the constellations and have
star-hopped my way to around 85 of the Messier objects so far. Mostly I am
interested in learning about things like how to collimate (never had to yet
thankfully), checking out other scopes to see what I like (since I'm
thinking of upgrading), and meeting other people in the area with the same
interest in and excitement for astronomy. I would also like to see how
well the green lasers actually work since I thought they might help
me point out stuff to my kids and scouts. I would have come to last
Thursday's (it sounded like just what I wanted) but had a prior commitment.
Anyway, I am very interested in some Utah County oriented
things.

Was
anyone still planning on going to the pit n' Pole on Saturday, or should we
just do the gravel pit on Friday. It would be nice to get as big a group as
possible at one or the other.
