Hi all, I tested several mid to hi power binoculars at Big 5 Sports Store. 20 to 60 power. Zoom too. They were low priced Barska ? brand. $30 to $40. They were OK for scenery. If I remember they had some minor focusing issues on the mechanical and optics slightly weren't even. I didn't buy any tho I spent 1/2 hour with several pairs. So you get what u pay for. On the other hand I have 3 or 4 neighbors that never could figure out their equatorial mount telescopes. they would be better off with above binoculars. Could they see rings of Saturn and Jupiter moons? [ I have seen moons with 10x and a steady rest] Also binoc's good for terrestrial use. If you can see the north wall of American Fork Canyon U can see a neat wide cave / overhang near the top. Think its called Devils Den or something. Scope saves a lot of climbing:) Gary Wallace N7JZN Ham Radio. Anyone know how to hook a camera to a telescope? On 3/8/10, Richard Tenney <retenney@yahoo.com> wrote:
Hi all,
After my toddler grandson tipped over my tripod and broke my 15x70 binocs last year, I've been looking off and on for a replacement set. Anyone on the list have any strong recommendations for, or knowledge of deals out there on a replacement pair? Either 15x70 or 20x80 is what I'm looking for (I have a nice parallelogram that Mr. Hards made for me a few years back, which works wonderfully well) . Also, anyone know about the quality difference between the Celestron 15x70's for $80 and the Orion 15x70's for $229? I called Orion and the "technician" didn't know enough about them to be able to describe the difference! The only obvious difference I can see in the photos/description is the individual focus on the more expensive pair. I assume both are Chinese made (probably from the same factory...?).
