Isn't this the primary failure mode for all old electronics? It seems to come up as the #1 cause of failure due to age alone (i.e. no birds nesting in your cabinet, no mice/rats nests, etc.)
It's one of the popular problems -- especially in monitors/power supplies where there is a lot of heat buildup. Of course it was popular just recently on lots of motherboards and other widgets due to counterfeit caps with bad electrolyte (which resulted in the caps popping their tops) --Kurt
