Friends: I let you all know a couple of weeks ago that Dwight Ball Was hospitalized. This morning I called his cell phone to see how he was doing, but I was several hours too late. Dwight passed away last night. I hope he's among the stars and deep sky objects that he loved to see with his own homemade telescopes. Dwight was another good friend from my association with SLAS who was always interested in sharing ideas, especially about ATM'ing. Dwight was a machinist and was very generous with offers to make parts for others' ATM needs. Dwight was a military veteran, but I don't remember in which branch he served. I know that he had been posted in Vietnam. I'll be looking for an obit for more details. I don't know much about his extended family and other friends, but my prayers and condolences go out to them. I'm also reminded how much I appreciate all of you and my many other astronomy acquaintances. At the risk of sounding too mushy, thanks to all for being my friends. Kim
I never had the opportunity to meet Dwight. I have been involved with the SLAS since 2000 and during that time I'm not sure he had been very active with the club. I am saddened to hear a friend to so many people I do know has passed away. May Dwight rest in peace and my sympathies to his family friends and others who will miss him. Steve

Dwight was in the Army, machinists I believe. RIP Dwight he did have a serious heart condition, I think his mother is still alive I am unaware of any other family.
Talking about Elvis, Dwight gave an individual a ride to RTMC one year who did not really appreciate the ride, so Dwight took him on the gutter tour of Las Vegas just to annoy him. Many Elvis, Street People, Hooker sightings etc. Erik Friends: I let you all know a couple of weeks ago that Dwight Ball Was

People, Dwight is survived only buy a self alienated brother in Arizona. Right up to the end he had multiple scope projects percolating if not in some stage of development. He also knew more off the top of his head about ballistics than any one I've ever met. I used to say (not in too much jest) that if the s--- really hit the fan Dwight would be one of the first to make his way up out of the rubble. For years he cared for an ailing mother and a problematic Brother, He was a man of no guile, seldom held a grudge, and was always ready to help anyone in need. He was a good man. I am glad to have known him. ________________________________ From: "erikhansen@thebluezone.net" <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, August 5, 2011 10:02 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Dwight Ball

I haven't seen Dwight's obit posted on-line yet. If he has no local family, who will write one up?
