Re: [Utah-astronomy] Where were you 22 years ago today
We definitely want to see it from the ground. Is your charter going to land? I have seen one total solar eclipse from the air (the Mark Littmann charter Patrick mentioned), three from the ground, and one at sea. The only one where the view was kind of crapy was from the airplane. -- Joe ------------------------------ On Fri, Jul 12, 2013 7:09 PM MDT Brent Watson wrote:
Perhaps Casper or Riverton. Its too early for me to think too much about it, but either of those two places offer a better chance than Idaho. If Idaho is desired, then perhaps Smiley Creek (U87), or Weiser. I am sure Idaho Falls and Rexburg will be a zoo. That's the nice thing about my charter. It goes where I want and can change on a minute's notice - even in flight if ADS-B weather so dictates.
What have you thought?

Have you considered upgrading to a B-17?

But seriously, do you plan on observing from the air or landing someplace?
For the latter I see Jackson Hole is right on the centerline but I'm guessing it'll be full on eclipse day.
Then there's Mud Lake, Rexburg and Driggs. Not on the centerline but pretty close with totality lasting about 2:17 and the Sun about 50 degrees altitude.
Here's a look at clouds along the route: http://www.eclipse2017.org/2017/weather/2017_clouds.htm

I will definitely watch it from the ground. I never have been a fan of watching from the air. I could well be home before fourth contact. ________________________________ From: Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com Sent: Friday, July 12, 2013 7:52 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Where were you 22 years ago today We definitely want to see it from the ground.
