Joe's question about Lakepoint reminds me that earlier this week I flew over the Spiral Jetty just after sunset and got to wondering if it might serve as a star party site. There's a parking area next to the Jetty that would easily hold several vehicles and a hill right next to the parking area would block lights from urban areas to the east. Not that there would be that many lights as the site is quite a ways from built up areas. Thoughts? BTW, with the lake level being so low the Jetty is now high and dry and quite a ways from water. patrick On 22 Oct 2014, at 09:26, Joe Bauman via Utah-Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

I've been at the Jetty after sunset and it was quite dark. That sounds like a good idea. I don't remember the details but we might want to put brown tarps or blankets to keep salty sand off our gear. Sent from my iPhone

Excuse the typo: I mean to say put DOWN tarps, not put brown tarps. ________________________________ From: Joe via Utah-Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmis To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 22, 2014 7:33 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Spiral Jetty as star party site I've been at the Jetty after sunset and it was quite dark.
