Utah Astronomy list members! I’m preparing for a large event next Tuesday and as part of the event I have been looking for some “trash scopes”. It seems if I search KSL dot com for telescopes these trash scopes have always shown up for $ 20-$30. Wouldn’t you know it there have been none available for a while and I would like to find some ALT-AZ mount and GP mount scopes that we can demonstrate different types of scopes, mounts and dissect them for people at the event to show how telescopes work, (refractor, reflector) how mounts work and why you should never buy a “trash scope”. Let me know if you have some scopes like this or know where I can buy some. I’m sure there might be some in this weekends yard sales but I hate to drive all over town. Thanks in advance, Steve
I have an old JC Penny refractor you can slice up! On Thu, May 31, 2012 at 10:27 AM, Steve Fisher <iotacass1@hotmail.com>wrote:

And hang-onto the better tripods. They can be recycled to hold parallelogram bino mounts.
Well, if we are talking dissection here... I need the adjusting mechanism from a refractor telescope for Tuesday at the Museum. I have a microscope camera and I need to set up an adjuster for it to show close-ups of the meteorites. I'd need to get it this weekend so I'd have time to modify it for the camera use. A rack and pinion focuser would be great! Especially if it has the coarse and fine adjustments. ANYONE? :) I'll even trade a meteorite for one....how's that? -Barrett & Roxanne -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Steve Fisher Sent: Thursday, May 31, 2012 10:50 AM To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Trash Scopes Needed A focuser?
