I just placed my order for the complete S&T collection on CD, to be released in August. Pre-orders get $50 off of the $299. price, plus free shipping, plus a full-size paper copy of the very first issue (which Patrick and I already have, IIRC). Anybody else take the bait? This will make researching back issues SO MUCH easier than leafing-through the actual magazines. http://www.shopatsky.com/productdetail/SKY7COMBO.htm?utm_source=SKY062110&ut...
Does anyone know if this S&T archive is searchable? I made the mistake of ordering the entire National Geographic collection some years back. I was so excited to get such a great resource. When it arrived, it was simply scanned pages (images) of the magazines. There was no text, so you couldn't search for a word or topic. I almost never use it, because it is so hard to find anything. I would order this set, but only if it can be searched effectively. Anyone know if that is the case? The initial post I saw said that it is for PC or Mac and was "machine searchable" there is a large thread on Cloudy Nights that has a lot of drivel to sort through after it's original posting but you may be able to glean all the information you need from here http://www.cloudynights.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/3691051/pag...

Here is what they said in the marketing email I received: ✓ Searchable text by issue and decade on each DVD ✓ Search all seven decades with special Index DVD ✓ Complete archive ✓ Printable and portable ✓ PC and Mac compatible ✓ Mouse click flips pages ✓ Easy zoom and scroll functions On 6/22/10, Steve FISHER <sfisher01@msn.com> wrote:

I actually did read through all six pages of that thread; most of it was either bitching at the price, or making suggestions on decisions that had already been made by the publisher long ago. There was also some good info, however, mostly posted by S&T staff. I'm amazed at people who won't hesitate to drop $700 or more on a single eyepiece, yet $250 for this incredible resource is "more than they can afford". Their loss. Thanks Steve!
