Re: Active region 808 rotating into view
I don't get excited about any aurorae, unless I happen to see them happening- whether or not they are "in season". Did you see the one in particular that I mentioned?
From several years ago, the one Joe wrote about in the DesNews, that actually swamped-out the light pollution of the Salt Lake valley?

I generally don't get excited about low-latitude aurora in September, since the low latitude aurora season doesn't start until November or December.

If the aurora event to which y'all are referring is the one of March 30/31, 2001, I was fortunate to see it from SLC and drove up to Little Mountain to watch for awhile from there. The aurora was quite literally horizon to horizon, in greens, reds and yellows. I have never seen anything like it before or since. It was also the last time I was able to observe any kind of special astronomical event with my Mom before her death. She introduced me to astronomy with late night trips up the cottonwood canyons to see meteor showers and early satellites, in the late 1950's. I still have a few so-so images of that auroral display posted to the SLAS Gallery pages at slas.us if anyone is interested. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chuck Hards" <chuckhards@yahoo.com> To: <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, September 09, 2005 1:53 PM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Re: Active region 808 rotating into view |I don't get excited about any aurorae, unless I happen | to see them happening- whether or not they are "in | season". | | Did you see the one in particular that I mentioned? | >From several years ago, the one Joe wrote about in the | DesNews, that actually swamped-out the light pollution | of the Salt Lake valley? | | > From: Canopus56 <canopus56@yahoo.com> | | > I generally don't get excited about low-latitude | > aurora in September, since the low latitude aurora | > season doesn't start until November or December. | | | | | ______________________________________________________ | Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. | http://store.yahoo.com/redcross-donate3/ | | _______________________________________________ | Utah-Astronomy mailing list | Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com | http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy | Visit the Photo Gallery: http://www.utahastronomy.com | | ______________________________________________________________________ | This e-mail has been scanned by Cut.Net Managed Email Content Service, using Skeptic(tm) technology powered by MessageLabs.
