Re: [Utah-astronomy] Pit n Pole Conditions Weather and Dirt
Yes Erik, there is a secret password to the site and if you don't give it, well, lets just not say what happens. Actually, if your wondering to go I am heading out as the forecast for that area is partly cloudy to clear so if you call me by 5:30p.m. or 6:00p.m. I'll be there and can tell you what the skies are like. Clear Sky Clock shows mostly clear until around 4:00a.m. so I'm going to give it a shot. AcuWeather shows partly cloudy at Cedar Fort for tonight so why not. On 2010-03-12 15:18, erikhansen wrote:
Is there a gang sign or secret password?
Oh, and though a SLAS party for members and invited guests, if you
contact me, I'll invite you ou to Pit n Pole.
Again, I won't be at the LDS Church Parking lot at Cedar Fort (think I got that right, just woke up) until 5:30p.m. I'll be at the Maverick at Bluffdale at 5:00p.m. Or you can use the maps posted in an early thread to get there.

I was out driving around this afternoon and the cloud cover looked grim, but it was thin enough to always show through to the blue in the straight up position. I new that Mars would be up there so headed to SPOC to look through any available telescope. The crew on the Grimm telescope were kind enough to let about a half dozen people look at Mars, NGC2392(the clown face) and M82 as well a splitting Castor. Brent Johnson bagged M34 between the toe of Perseus and the arm of Andromeda. He had brought his 10 newtonian to try for Messier objects but left when the clouds refused to part. Not a total loss after all. DT
Ironically, I ended up viewing more objects last night from my driveway. Was able to view an additional 9 Messier objects, all OC with the exception of M42 and M1. M1 was extremely challenging. Good news is forecast for Sun, Mon and Tues night is mostly clear skies.
