Hi Jay and friends, We're just back from the Bryce festival -- I sent an earlier note to the group from Bryce Canyon City (actually, the Best Western) but now we're home. Monday night was not great, as we had to contend with a lot of clouds. There were clear times when the viewing was good but not wonderful. However, Tuesday night featured clear, dark skies, with the Milky Way popping out, until it clouded up again around 12:30. Hundreds of people checked out the heavens, as dozens of SLAS volunteers set up scopes of all kinds. It was great to see Saturn through Siegfried's mighty Clark refractor. I set up on Monday night but last night Cory and I were busy interviewing folks (me) and taking photos (her) for Nightly News, so we didn't set up. We saw great things through --- On Fri, 7/9/10, Jay Eads <jayleads@gmail.com> wrote: From: Jay Eads <jayleads@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Once more to the Pit To: "Utah-Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Date: Friday, July 9, 2010, 9:46 AM Thanks Joe, How was Bryce? When we arrived it was very cloudy at 8:00p.m. We set up and by 10:30, clouds were gone as the sun had retired for the evening. It was a great evening with low humidity and great views. My new scope worked like a charm and we enjoyed the views greatly. M51 in particular showed much in terms of detail and structure, both arms very evident as was most of the bridge.

There is a group of us, about 6 to 7 that are heading to the Pit tonight if anyone is interested in joining us. Humidity will be low until around 4:00a.m. and then it goes up to around 60% but temperature should prevent dew. Should be a very good night according to Clear Sky Clock.
I am looking at Wolf Creek next Monday and Tuesday night for new moon as the forecast is great for those two nights.

I think you meant to say "weighty" Clark refractor. Hi All, I heard something about bad weather one of the nights at Bryce and in the interest of journalistic integrity I asked Rodger about it. I thought it was important for people to know about a weather incident Friday night, so I updated my blog. You can find it here: http://www.deseretnews.com/blog/47/10009478/Nightly-news-astronomy-Bryce-Can... -- Thanks, Joe
