News just released by JPL puts tomorrow's "Miss Distance" at .0003 AU. The previous record was .0131 AU. Unfortunately it will not be visible from Utah during closest approach but it will be when it transits at 3:30 tomorrow morning, about 12 hours prior to closest approach. I tried but it turns out (not surprisingly) that the Earth was changing the orbit so fast that even though the ephemerides I got from the IAU were fresh they were still outdated so I still missed the object. Too bad. Had I been able to find it it would have probably looked something like images 5, 6 & 7 at http://planet.state.ut.us/slas/patrickw/PATRICKW01.HTML .
