Actually Patrick SPOC is a very good site to view DSO's. Those people out on the lawn aren't all there for the Irridium Flares. You need to stay up late enough for it to get dark though. The official part of SPOC parties tend to adjorn before astonomical twilight ends though. That's when it starts to get really good and the public is still wandering in at that time. And the public loves it. Kurt could give you a list of bright DSO's that are visable from SPOC and Dave Bernsen would be happy to find them for you with your telescope if you need help. You sure don't have to say that twice to me. :) Just last month my observing log shows I spent a bit over 74 hours over 12 nights in my own observatory. Sure, the skies are not Bryce- like but still not bad considering the convenience of being able to walk out back and observe and/or take data. It's just too bad that certain other SLAS members don't agree with the quality of SPOC's skies. Carpe Noctem! patrick
