That's a bummer, Chuck. Sorry you won't be at SPOC. we'll compare pictures over the next few days :) and thank's Patrick.
11:45 PM MDT, got the scope focused and waiting now for the main event. Some high cirrus has drifted over about half the sky, hopefully it will clear out by totality. The 100mm ED scope has just about the perfect image scale at prime focus, f/9 = 900mm focal length. I am not using the focal reducer.
I went out to the South Valley Airport and the viewing was great there! Well, about as good as you'd get anywhere in the valley area anyway. It would actually be a very good place to hold a star party I'd think. There are several fields out there that are 10+ acres or more and ample parking. I got a few photos but the wind was blowing just enough to rock the tripod a bit and naturally I forgot to bring my tripod weight to settle it. Oh well..... -Barrett www.BarrettsCustomLeather.com www.FallenStarHunters.com -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Chuck Hards Sent: Monday, April 14, 2014 11:50 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Eclipse 11:45 PM MDT, got the scope focused and waiting now for the main event. It's been a 22 hour day for me, I'm crawling off to bed. I shot hundreds of stills as well as some video. Here's just one, not the best but I'm too tired to process more right now. Orion 100mm ED f/9 refractor, Pentax K-30 at prime focus. http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii24/JethroTull1958/EclipseApril2014002_z... What a terrific eclipse. Not the darkest I've ever seen, but a nice shade of orange. More ruddy than nearby Mars. Good night!

I've really enjoyed all the images I've seen posted here; great job all! I got some images also, but being just handheld shots with either eyepiece projection or DSLR with telephoto, they are not nearly as nice as those I've seen from you on this list. During the eclipse I thought it would be fun to view a few DSO's with my 8" f5.7 dobsonian. Among them, I saw M104, M51, 2 of the "Leo Trio", and M13. Pretty cool that I saw them from my driveway under a "full moon"! I also enjoyed an occultation of a star by the moon that occurred around 01:40 (sorry didn't get the exact timing). It was close to being centered on the moon's limb and looked like a poor star being eaten by a red, ravenous beast. Fun times! Nice shot, Chuck. Looking at your photos always reminds me that I need to flip my images. I never remember to do that. Mirror universe? Just too old to care? Something. Dave Sent from my iPad
