Patrick, is public allowed anywhere near the ATK booster test? Kim
YES... well not NEAR but there is a public viewing area. I will try to find the link I read a few days ago. ________________________________ From: Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thu, August 19, 2010 2:45:05 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Booster test Sorry, but I don't know. I've always been rather fond of rockets and high explosives, so if I can't get close enough to hear and especially feel the rocket motor, I'm not interested. I didn't see any link to a map of sorts. Does anyone have first hand experience from this public viewing area? For some reason I'm reminded of a homemade rocket that my friend and I built when we were teenagers. (You know, the "innocent" years.) It was made entirely of homemade components: a cardboard BB tube, powdered sparklers for fuel and a dime with a hole punched in it for the nozzle. (You know, I wonder if scaling the idea up to a concrete form tube would work. I'm sure club members have spare Sonotubes lying around...) The thing didn't have enough thrust to really take off. It gained about 20 feet in altitude then sort of floated over the fence and landed next door in Mrs. Ellingson's garden where it started a fire. Mrs. Ellingson never did like me. ATK has a nice developed parking and viewing area. Toilets, public address system, etc. People also just pull off the road and set up their chairs and shade for about a mile immediately east of the developed parking area.

I am not able to find a particular public site as far as maps go so I am just going to take the road out by the Brigham city Airport and follow it out Until I find it. I know that is state rd 83 I am not sure if it is anything formal or anything more than people just parking along the side of the road.

As I recall this was late summer, so maybe they were fried half-green/half-ripe. There is a public viewing area next to the highway, Utah 83, within a few miles south of the rocket garden. The test is between 11 a.m. and noon, Aug. 31, according to the latest press release I've seen. --- On Thu, 8/19/10, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote: From: Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Booster test To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Date: Thursday, August 19, 2010, 2:45 PM Sorry, but I don't know.
