Around 4:30-5:00 today there were very bright sundogs (one bright like a second sun, the other less so). This cell phone photo I took doesn't really do them justice: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=7742622&l=efdd86945f&id=559557811 Anyone get a better shot? ---- Rev. I just watched the nice sunset with the moon next to Jupiter. Didn't see the sundogs but I have seen them in the last year. DT --- On Mon, 1/10/11, Michael Vanopstall <opstall@math.utah.edu> wrote:

I think that is a great shot; thanks for posting it. Norm Michael Vanopstall wrote:
The most spectacular sun dogs that I've seen were while on a winter trip to Yellowstone NP. It was bitter cold, and there was a haze of ice crystals in the air, so the solar halo and sundogs were also very bright. The most interesting atmospheric phenomenon of this kind that I've seen was actually a bright lunar halo with "moondogs" and an upper tangential arc. Somewhere I have a 35mm slide of it, taken from RTMC near Big Bear about 12 years ago. If I can find it I'll post it to my gallery album.
