It struck me as being more politics than science so after a half an hour or so I switched to the tape of this morning's MER press conference. A few things stood out during that half hour, though. Members of the committee had nice things to say about the recent events at Mars. Members of the committee questioned how a 1 billion dollar increase is going to help a $100+ billion program. Members questioned where the $10 billion NASA needs to come up with from its budget is going to come from. One member seemed to indicate that government got us up there but private enterprise will eventually take over. A couple members commented that part of the value of the space program is to inspire kids to pursue careers in science. Patrick Richard Tenney wrote:
