Took a couple of sunspot photos. I didn’t get the detail Joe got on his, but it’s passable. One photo with an 18mm lens, one photo with a 40mm lens. http://www.flickr.com/photos/78046474@N06/sets/72157630465134226/ Dave

Thanks, Joe. As you have done with your solar photos, I do the same. I change the color because they are too orange for my taste straight through the filter. I think you said yours were too blue. Basically, all I do is hit the “sepia” button in iPhoto. I thrive in a low-tech environment. Dave On [Jul 7], at [Jul 7] 11:06 AM, Joe Bauman wrote:

Nice! I simply converted my latest bunch to B&W because of the blue. The Baader filter I use with my 12" gives a blue hue. Great views through the PST between the yardwork chores. The view is always deep red in H-a. Lots of Prominences. Joe, Baader produces a white light view. To the eye, it acts as a ND filter only. Your chip has a much different perception than the human eye/brain. More proof that humanity's view has nothing to do with intrinsically "correct" color rendition. All is relative, in visual perception. On Jul 7, 2012 2:39 PM, "Joe Bauman" <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:

When I look through the filter I made for the LX200 10” it looks, slightly, bluish. On the computer, too. I think.... I haven’t looked through that filter in about 3 weeks and my memory fades fast. Maybe my memory synapses fade to blue? Maybe it’s my old eyes? If I remember I’ll test it, tomorrow. I’ve been working on a computer that picked up a virus. Did everything I could think of (which wasn’t much, since I’m a Mac bozo) and nothing worked. Dropped back and punted. I’ve got most of the stuff loaded back on and running pretty well. All seems stable, which is all one can say for Windoze. I just wish some of my older astronomy software ran on a Mac natively. Maybe I’ll be like Chuck and run everything from a Commodore 64. Where is that old Sinclair when you need it? Oh, there it is, sittin’ under the slide rule. Hey, look, a star chart. Dave On [Jul 7], at [Jul 7] 3:27 PM, Joe Bauman wrote:

Baader Solar film definitely has a blueish tint to it! You can fix it in post or run a custom white balance in your camera to get rid of it (I shoot RAW so I just do it in post) calibrating your monitor is always a good idea as well, it certainly won't hurt to do so. I don't see any tint visually with Baader film. Looks perfectly neutral to me. I spent 5 years as a custom color photgraphic printer. My various glass filters and non-Baader plastic filters all have a deep tint, however. Various hues. On Jul 7, 2012 8:34 PM, "Howard" <sumoetx@gmail.com> wrote:

Joe, Baader produces a white light view. To the eye, it acts as a ND filter only. Your chip has a much different perception than the human eye/brain.
More proof that humanity's view has nothing to do with intrinsically "correct" color rendition. All is relative, in visual perception.

I should have clarified what I said, I meant to say in my photographic experiences with it Baader film has a bluish tint. (because I never custom white balance for it) Visually it's a different story at least sometimes...I still will see a bluish tint at times but I think it's probably caused more by light leakage around the filter than the filter itself. Chuck do you think that's a plausible explanation for the tint visually? (maybe even photographically now that I think about it) I also own a Thousand Oaks solar filter and I prefer the Baader image every time. Either way I've never been bothered by it, and no one viewing through the scope has complained either, if they question a quick "It's the filter" suffices to answer their curiosity. --- On Sat, 7/7/12, Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> wrote:
