PANSTARRS picture project
I put together a packet of reduced FIT images I took of the comet this morning. http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/2011L4.zip Contains: 1-60s exposure with a clear filter (luminance) 1-30s exposure with a green filter 1-30s exposure with a blue filter 1-30s exposure with a red filter Anyone care to try to assemble them into a color image? patrick
Hi Patrick, this was hard to process because in order to show the tail very well, I ended up blowing out the head so it's a little bigger than it otherwise would be. Also I used a deconvolve formula and a item that removes bloom; I cloned out some bad pixels, and adjusted the color, contrast and darkness. I had to use the clear image two or three times to give the tail enough umph. So it's probably not very good but I'm too tired to fiddle with it anymore. Gotta go to bed -- we're having breakfast with a friend at 9. Ugh for getting up then! Patrick, I thought I was sending it back to you but it ended up in UtahAstronomy, which I guess automatically strips out any photo attachment. I'm going to fiddle with the color and try to send it directly to you. The system kicks attachments over 40kb. I believe this was probably put in place at a time when smartphone users were concerned about bandwidth. I'm wondering it it isn't time to raise the ceiling a bit, On Tue, Jun 4, 2013 at 3:12 PM, Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:

While I'm still on an unlimited data plan (very old iPhone on ATT) with some carriers putting limits on downloads, attachments could be a problem. But the biggest reason for no attachments is exposure to viruses. Apparently hackers have found attachments great vectors for malware. I'm on more lists than I can remember from huge lists like SBIG and Software Bisque to little ones like this and as far as I know only one (a small one) allows attachments. Perhaps not by coincidence it's that one list that seems to have the most problems with folks having their addresses hacked. BTW, getting back to the original subject of this thread, Joe did an outstanding job of turning my monochrome images into a very nice color image. Joe, what's say you post it to your album on the SLAS Gallery for all to admire? patrick
My thought on the attachments was to make it for original content only, and still requiring review as it does now. On Tuesday, June 4, 2013, Patrick Wiggins wrote:
