Re: [Utah-astronomy] Bright idea? Vegas may limit lights
Never been to Bryce for star gazing - I assumed pitch black skies and no sign of Vegas. Not true?
I'll believe it when I see it.
Better still, I'll believe it when I can't see it (LV) >from Bryce Canyon...

Very dark skies. Some of the best in the continental US. But, alas, the glow of Vegas can be seen low in the sky. pw
Patrick, Are you sure it was Vegas. Chad Moore said the main light polluters are the 600 plus billboards between Fillmore and Cedar City. Their lights all point up. To change them to point down would cost $1,000 each. Hi Don, I had lunch with Cindy and Jerry Foote today and Jerry seemed to remember LV's light's impinge on the Bruce sky. But maybe we're both mistaken so I'm CCing this to both Chad and Kevin at Bryce to get their take on whether Las Vegas' lights can be seen from Bryce. Cheers, patrick On 07 Sep 2007, at 12:54, Don J. I just heard back from Chad. Here's what he said:
We can indeed see Las Vegas from Bryce Canyon. From Yovimpa point the St. George and Las Vegas glows merge, but there is a distinct double hump on clear nights, the left one being LV. We cannot parse the two light domes out from one another, but I'm going to guess that LV is about 10-25% of total light pollution seen from Bryce Canyon.
