Re: [Utah-astronomy] APOD is down again
There is no need for SLAS to build it into its web site because it already has a gallery where members can post their astrophotos. But a seperate site for one photo a day, open to all of the state's astrophotogs would be interesting. ------------------------------ On Tue, Oct 30, 2012 4:13 PM MDT Chrismo wrote:

Like I said, I'm just throwing ideas at the wall here... facebook would be good, because it already has an image upload & storage system with adequate bandwidth for as much use as something like UAPOD might need. You wouldn't even have to be a facebook user to view it. If we did it as a regular website, it would need to contain enough advertising to pay the costs of running a site like that, and would still be another bookmark. To make it part of SLAS would require cooperation on their part, and would probably end up costing them more to run their website because of increased traffic. Something like tumblr or a wordpress site could be used too, but once again, it's still a new bookmark. I'm open to any other suggestions anyone would like to throw at my virtual wall here, and for the record, this is *just* an idea. There is no need for SLAS to build it into its web site because it already has a gallery where members can post their astrophotos. But
a
seperate site for one photo a day, open to all of the state's astrophotogs would be interesting.

I don't know that Utahans generate enough images or sketches to make an astronomy picture of the day. Ad there's the concern expressed earlier about who would manage it. But in the event such a site is set up perhaps it could be opened up to all kinds of stuff like Utah wildlife, nature, photomicrography and astronomy. patrick
Interesting ideas, Patrick. That would work. One day an astrophoto, the next wildlife. What about a Utah Nature Photograph of the Day? UNPOD. ________________________________ From: Wiggins Patrick <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 30, 2012 5:41 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] APOD is down again I don't know that Utahans generate enough images or sketches to make an astronomy picture of the day. Good idea, I admit. But it's no longer astronomy, and beyond the realm of this list-serve. I'm sure such sites exist already. KSL, for example. On Oct 30, 2012 5:50 PM, "Joe Bauman" <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:

If the scope is broadened to lots of topics we could always call it the Interesting Photo Of the Day. Oh, wait... I think that acronym is taken. :) patrick On 30 Oct 2012, at 17:49, Joe Bauman wrote:
