Back in August I ordered a secondary holder and spider from Bryan Greer at Protostar. Bryan and I have spoken on the phone occassionally over the years and know each other by reputation. The order was initially pegged at "3 week delivery", and in late September I called and he assured me that it would be shipping soon. Since then, no-one at Protostar answers the phone or responds to email and my spider and secondary holder have not shown-up. We are now at 3 months since the order was placed. Has anyone heard of problems at Protostar or perhaps personal problems on the part of Greer?
Earlier this year I bought a secondary and spider from him, along with a flocked tube, end caps, and rings. They took much longer than he quoted me (6 weeks he said, it was more like 2-3 months), but they finally did arrive. Good luck! /R --- On Mon, 11/8/10, Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> wrote:

Well I'm at 3 months plus at this point. Was hoping to have the thing DONE by now. He's still better than Criterion. I waited nearly a year for a mount that never arrived. I finally cancelled my order and bought a Cave Astrola. Had that one in three weeks! On 11/9/10, Richard Tenney <retenney@yahoo.com> wrote:

Update: I am at one week away from this being a 4-month wait. Protostar neither answers their phone nor responds to emails. I will never order from them again, and this is unfortunate because they make a superior product. But even the best product does no good if the maker can't deliver. I can make a better one myself anyway. I was hoping for the convenience of having it ready made, but will do what I have to do. At this point I just want my money back. HYOOGE disappointment with Bryan Greer.
You have my sympathy. I went through this "service" nonsense with Meade on multiple occasions, for months at a time. In the end my mount was in their hands for over a year, total time, and never operated properly for more than a few hours after each return. I haven't been able to use it for years now, because Meade no longer supports the product. Yes, I absolutely hate Meade. Chuck, I agree - I don't mind moving snow by hand, and I'm headed outdoors to do so in a few minutes. I was serving an LDS mission when my mother wrote to me that my grandfather just couldn't keep clearing the snow from his driveway and from at least three of his neighbors' walks and driveways, all elderly widows. Mom wrote that he finally broke down and bought a snowblower. He was 86. We got about four inches from this storm, but it may be enough to keep us from getting into the foothills to cut our Christmas tree. UPDATE: This morning Protostar refunded my money. There was no explanation along with the PayPal refund. I had told my story on the Protostar CN thread and I am pretty sure that was what prompted the refund. This is disappointing. After a 4-month delay, a promise to ship at the 5-week mark, and no communication at all after that, Bryan essentially has said that he can't deliver. This was merely for a spider for an 8-inch tube and a 1" diagonal holder. So, I'm finished with Protostar. Excellent products do no good if you can't get your hands on them. I'll make my own, along the Protostar design. Caveat Emptor!
