Re: [Utah-astronomy] Rush Valley
You guys should try eating buffalo. It is leaner and lower in fat than beef. I had buffalo prime rib and buffalo ribs last weekend. It was a wonderful meal. We got it at the Gun Barrel in St George. I also love elk but haven't tried that menu yet. Back in '96, I spent a week at Teton Village and had elk and caribou diane. Very delicious meal! The bill came to $125 for two people though. But it was worth it. Wild game is a great way to get some red meat without the risk of steroids and antibiotics that they feed the cows. Ah, but it's at it's best when red in the middle and juicy!
char = nitrosemenes (SP?) = cancer risk, no matter the meat, but the fatter it is, the higher the concentration, in general.
The rule of thumb is, the more flavor a food has, the worse for you it is. One of life's little inequities! :o(

Actually, "Teton Village" explains the price completely. Wonderful place to visit, but I couldn't afford to live there. My wife and I honeymooned there 20 years ago. Spent some time dining and listening to bands at "The Mangey Moose", wonder if it's still there? On 7/24/07, erikhansen@thebluezone.net <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> wrote:

I shoot my elk. After license, tag, guns, ammo, 4-wheel drive truck, and processing by Meiers Meats (they do a wonderful job!), I figure it only costs me about $125/pound after all these these years. You need to figure in the value of the Cardio workout you receive in getting the meat and the satisfaction of not having to rely on anyone but yourself for your food and that alone has to be priceless! ;)

A Hubble picture book would be nice, but there is nothing quite like the scent of fresh mountain air, the sound of stampeding sheep, and the far off cry of a slewing Meade. ;) I vote we spend the clubs money. And if we don't have enought, then we spend some of the Clark Planetariums money. If the club will fork over some bucks, I will renew my membership for another year! Although I think it would be cheaper and a whole lot more fun to make Salt Lake City and the surrounding area a dark sky site. ;) All I've got to do is locate the plug!
