Just went outside with my 18X80 monocular. I looked for the Moon first. It is one of the slimmest crescents I can remember seeing. A very nice treat naked eye. Since the comet is supposed to be by the moon, I searched and founit. It looks like a miniature comet through the monocular. A broad tail, not too long and a well condensed nucleus. I went inside and got my wife to come out and have a look. She was able to find it without much trouble even though she is not experienced in astronomical observing, especially with a big hand held monocular. It is actually a half binocular and a bit unwieldy. While she looked through the monocular, I saw it naked eye. Definitely a non-stellar nucleus and perhaps a broad 1/4 degree tail. Definitely a double treat this evening from my home in Bountiful.

Perhaps +1 to +1.5 as a wild estimate. It has to be pretty bright to see it in the twilight. Did anyone see it from Utah County? It was quite overcast around 6:30, so I decided to see a movie (Jack Reacher, rather entertaining) instead. The overcast was completely gone at 9:30, but so was the comet, sadly. Hoping tonight will be clear. ________________________________ From: Brent Watson <brentjwatson@yahoo.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 13, 2013 9:11 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Double Treat Perhaps +1 to +1.5 as a wild estimate. Clouds were continuously too heavy to see anything down my way except the thin crescent of the moon shining through, darn it. ________________________________ From: Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, March 14, 2013 8:56 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Double Treat The buddy chatter is the only thing that keeps me here. ;-) On Wed, Mar 13, 2013 at 10:28 AM, daniel turner <outwest112@yahoo.com>wrote:

We saw it from Farmington Jr High last night. It was naked eye visible. It had a really nice tail. It was about two Moon diameters left of the Moon and about the same height as the crescent of the Moon. The clouds did make it difficult to find. We found it in a telescope first and then binoculars. When that area was clear, we saw it naked eye.
