I bought three new eyepieces from Hands On Optics. They arrived a week ago but Saturday night was the first time I had a chance to use them. I bought a 2mm, 5mm, and 9mm of the long eye relief GTO eyepieces. The 9mm will be sent back. It had a color problem with Jupiter, Saturn and the moon. I don't mind seeing a planet colored by a filter but having half of it purple and the other half red bothers me. It did have a sweet spot in the center where the color went away and the image looked nice. I have some 10mm Plossils and they produce a better image. The 2mm and 5mm eyepieces performed quite nicely. The 2mm takes my 10" f/4.5 up to 572X. The moon looked real nice. The central peak in Theophilus was real clear and sharp. The small craters around the Apollo 11 and the mountains to the south were nice as well. The 5mm eyepiece performed well on Jupiter and Saturn. The shadow transit was real clear, crisp and dark. The 20mm eye relief was real nice. I did notice a little stretching right at the edge of the 2mm. It seemed to be trying to straighten the edge of the moon out. The image did look pleasing to the eye. I think that my next step is to have Brent or Chuck take a look at them and show me how to detect other possible problems since I am not an expert on optics. Here is a link to the eyepieces. http://www.handsonoptics.com/astronomy/GTO_series/gto_series.html#ler Thanks. David Dunn 801-961-3253
