I saw it from Wolf Creek with Rob Taylor Saturday night. Oddly we were the only ones from SLAS up there. The conditions were great and we stayed until 4 AM when the dawn glow started. Where was everyone else? DT
Three of us SLASers were at the Summit County gravel pit. It was a lovely sight, and, amazingly, some nearby town started shooting off fireworks on the FIFTH of July. The bursts and streamers and giant red fantastc shapes cleared the hills just a little to the south of the lineup. One glance took in the other worlds, star, moon and the fireworks. I was really wishing I had brought my Nikon -- it was the sort of view that would make an astronomical magazine, maybe even the cover! -- Joe --- On Sun, 7/6/08, daniel turner <outwest112@yahoo.com> wrote: From: daniel turner <outwest112@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Dusk line-up To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Date: Sunday, July 6, 2008, 6:09 AM I saw it from Wolf Creek with Rob Taylor Saturday night. Hi Joe The line up was OK and we had some fireworks going off here too, but what I noticed last time that I was on Haleakala was that if you can see the Pleiades, then you can see Boattini. So I set up this morning on my front lawn between my stereo street lights, added a pair of gobos to block those lights and shot the little gem with my Nikon (always bring a camera, always). I posted this quick image in my album. Nikon D200 800iso 5x60sec. 80mm fluorite doublet 555mm Aloha Rob
That's cool, Rob! It was a clear night in Summit County and I wish I had realized a comet was hanging out too. Next time I'll check my updated Starry Night Pro to see what's up.
