SPOC's Clear Sky Clock is now calling for clear skies tonight so I've reserved the Bogdan for an attempt to spot the comet. All are welcome, patrick
You're kidding. It's bitter cold here and overcast. Sig On Sun, Mar 17, 2013 at 2:27 PM, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com>wrote:

I'll try from the yard but need to be in bed by nine. Four AM comes all too soon. On Mar 17, 2013 4:32 PM, "Patrick Wiggins" <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:

It's looking better but still lots of horizon clouds. The Clear Sky Clock is usually right, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
It has cleared off nicely. Still a few cirrus but they appear to be fading as well. I'm headed to SPOC now. Should be there until 9ish. patrick On 17 Mar 2013, at 18:40, Chuck Hards wrote:

There's a band of cloud right over the comet, and it's moving in the same direction as it's length. I can only give it another half hour, then it's bedtime. South and west of here looks good.

That was me when SL9 hit Jupiter in 94. Wife was working nights and I was in the backyard with telescope and baby monitor. Hang in there, dad! On Mar 17, 2013 8:45 PM, "Daniel Holmes" <danielh@holmesonics.com> wrote:

Just barely naked-eye visible. Still about a degree of tail. Best in the bino. Not bad in my 70mm spotter.
Really nice to finally get to see it under clear skies. Too bad about the Moon but still an impressive site. I can't say for sure that I saw it naked eye. Maybe 90% sure. The view through the Bogdan was great. The tail just jumped out. The darker the sky got the longer the tail got. Bruce Grim and Steve Nielson joined me and in addition to the comet we had very nice views of Jupiter and the Moon. Speaking of those two, I hope folks have noticed tonight's nice alignment of Aldebaran, the Moon and Jupiter. Back home now and shooting ISON (will post them later). patrick On 17 Mar 2013, at 20:29, Chuck Hards wrote:

Very cool. Much bigger and impressive than I was expecting. Huge tail. It was a beautiful night for viewing and well worth the quick trip out. I forget until I look at the Moon how beautiful it really is. Thanks for the impromptu opening of SPOC. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patrick Wiggins" <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sunday, March 17, 2013 9:44:01 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Comet at SPOC tonight Really nice to finally get to see it under clear skies.
