Pretty panoramas: Curiosity's scenic views of distant hills

The problem with Martian vistas is the general lack of color. It would be nice to have a blue sky to contrast with the tan colored landscape. Those panoramas look like a bad air day near Bryce Canyon because of air pollution. ________________________________ From: Wiggins Patrick <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: utah astronomy listserve utah astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, October 11, 2012 9:33 PM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Pretty panoramas: Curiosity's scenic views of distant hills Not just geologists may like these: http://www.planetary.org/blogs/emily-lakdawalla/2012/10111730-curiosity-pano... patrick _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Send messages to the list to Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com The Utah-Astronomy mailing list is not affiliated with any astronomy club. "Neither of these two panoramas actually contains any sky; the background is the Gale crater rim." ________________________________ From: M Wilson <astro_outwest@yahoo.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, October 12, 2012 6:27 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Pretty panoramas: Curiosity's scenic views of distant hills The problem with Martian vistas is the general lack of color. Does anyone know the scale of the photos, i.e. how distant is the crater rim? The detail views do look hazy to me - like most of Utah (including Bryce Canyon) this year due to wildfires. I've been trying since August to get pics of the zodiacal light but the smoke in the air has made it a useless exercise.
