Mea Culpa -- for SLASers
Dear Fellow SLAS Friends, I have to admit to a grievous fault. I told Patrick that I would write a piece for Nova about ALCON, and I did that in entirely good faith. When he reminded me about it a week or so ago, I said I promised I would have it in by Sunday, his deadline. Then it slipped my mind. There is no excuse other than some personal troubles and forgetfulness. This is another reason that I didn't run for SLAS office; I guess at times I can be unreliable. I feel terrible about it. Please forgive me, all. -- Joe
Joe, Not a problem as life happens. I have never found you to be unreliable but to be of the utmost character as your post here reflects. Please don't be so hard on yourself. On Tue, Aug 23, 2011 at 6:45 AM, Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:

Joe, don't be so hard on yourself. T.S. Eliot (or was it Wild Bill Elliott?) said, "The years between fifty and seventy are the hardest. You are always being asked to do more, and you are not yet decrepit enough to turn them down." As for myself, I like the one by Leo Rosenberg: "First you forget names, then you forget faces, then you forget to pull your zipper up, then you forget to pull your zipper down!" Jethro Tull put it best: "Too Old To Rock and Roll, Too Young To Die"
While walking downtown one sunny eve I pulled a total stranger aside and asked him who was the least reliable person he knew. He may have said Joe, but I can’t remember. That pesky forgetfulness. It’s gotten me out of a lot of unpleasant affairs. I embrace it, now.
