Re: [Utah-astronomy] A Question on JaFu 2 in NGC 6441
Jay and Rodger, Did you try the one in M22? -- Best wishes, Joe --- On Fri, 7/3/09, Rodger C. Fry <rcfry@comcast.net> wrote: From: Rodger C. We will have to see what it looks like in the next month or so. I was doing some research on NGC 6441, a rather unique globular cluster that doesn't really fit either Oosterhoff classification (see http://www.iop.org/EJ/abstract/1538-3881/122/5/2600 and pick the PDF or HTML to read the article) and knowing that a planetary sits in the center of the globular, I did some research into it (loving planetary nebulas).
What I found interests me, a lot. I know that even with the 14 inch truss dob I own I have no chance for viewing JaFu2. I am just wondering if the Grim out at SPOC could or has captured this object or someone else here has using a large aperture scope? I have seen NGC 6441 but my fear on the planetary is that it sits too low on the southern horizon to capture even with a large scope (looking through all the atmosphere and junk), though the first week of August or last week of July could be worth a shot.
Here's an interesting site on it http://www.blackskies.org/ JaFu_challenge.htm where they label it and JaFu1 as possibly the "ultimate" planetary challenges; not sure about that and would love to hear others opinions on that.
Anyway, thanks for putting up with my interests and in replying.
Jay

Joe, I know that M-22 is one of your favorites as well as mine but I haven't noticed the planetary nebula in it. Have you observed this?
