As I was hanging-up my Sky Gazer's Almanac for 2007 (Sky Publishing), I noticed that Mars reaches opposition on the night of Dec. 24th! It is closest to earth on Dec. 18th, however, and will be only be a so-so size of 15.9" in diameter, this time around.
