Great views of the comet tonight from SPOC. But even better views of Saturn and M-42 through the Brandt and Jupiter through the Ealing. Chances are good that we'll open both scopes up Sunday night too. Patrick :-)
I'm a fairly new member to SLAS. Was at Harmon's yesterday for short tiem at Sun Party and was great to put faces to names. Looking forward to getting involved on a more regular basis. Sounds like great views from SPOC. Can't make it tonight. Was wondering if the comet will still be in the night sky next couple of days ( at least tomorrow), and if anyone might be at SPOC tomorrow (monday) evening while its still in the night sky, and assuming its clear??? I could make it tomorrow if others in the club are planning on being there. I did see it myself last night for the first time from the valley, but a darker area. It was tough to find initially. But once I located it, it was spectacular! Used my new 15x70 binoculars recommended by the club, and I was so impressed with the optices for the $100.00 price, and the comet was magnificient. Was surprised how blue the color was. Was certainly one of the best I had seen in my lifetime. Looking forward to becoming a more active member - I have been a member of various astronomy clubs since the sixties, and I must say, this is one of the most active I have been associated with. And the experienced people are so supportive and helpful to the newbies. Thanks!!! Jim Stitley --- Patrick Wiggins <paw@trilobyte.net> wrote:

Great views on Friday night as well, Jim, but the comet is dropping fast. It will be a morning object in a few days. I can't make it to SPOC on weeknights at all, in time to see it before it sets. I thought it easy to find last night, due to the bright orange star right next to it. Might have been a contrast effect; that is, due to the star the comet might have appeared bluer than it actually is. At high power, with the star out of the field, it appeared whitish to me. Should be further from that star tonight. I'd almost bet you a donut that Patrick, Bruce and Roger will be at SPOC every night until the comet sinks into the sunset. Turns out that due to a prior commitment, I can't make my photo-shoot tonight. Going to try for a morning run in a few days. Chuck --- Jim Stitley <sitf2000@yahoo.com> wrote:

Can somebody tell me when it will be a morning object? I was planning to go out Thursday night to shoot it, hoping to get it near M31 -- is this a bad idea? -- Joe
Hi Joe: It will be closest to M31 on Thursday. For a few days it will be both an evening and morning object. After the end of the week it will be pretty much exclusively a morning object. Chuck --- Joe Bauman <bau@desnews.com> wrote:

No guarantees, but there's been someone at SPOC every clear night for the past several days. So if the weather is good tomorrow night, you'll probably find someone out there. Patrick
