I'm surprised that there hasn't been any discussion of the partial eclipse this Thursday. I know I haven't been much of a contributor lately, but I actually found out about this through social media. I'm planning to be at Arches on the day of, anyone else doing anything interesting?
SLAS will be at the Natural History Museum of Utah starting at 1:00. The eclipse starts a few minutes after 3. patrick On 20 Oct 2014, at 23:17, CJ Cottrill <cjcottrill@gmail.com> wrote:

Some of SLAS will also be at St. Vincent's. We did a Sun party for them last year and they are the nicest kids. We will start about 1:00and go to 3:00 for the kids. We will then stay for the eclipse. On Mon, Oct 20, 2014 at 11:22 PM, Wiggins Patrick <paw@getbeehive.net> wrote:

It should be fun to show people the large sunspot group (AR12192) during the eclipse (when it isn't eclipsed). It is large enough that I was able to easily see it with just eclipse glasses yesterday. Clear skies, Dale. -----Original Message----- From: Utah-Astronomy [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Siegfried Jachmann Sent: Tuesday, October 21, 2014 9:11 AM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Partial Solar Eclipse Some of SLAS will also be at St. Vincent's. Clark Planetarium will have staff, solar glasses and telescopes at the Gateway by the Olympic Fountain, and at Wheeler Farm Thursday afternoon. Any volunteers wanting to join us would be welcome! We had a good show down here in Torrey, despite some high clouds. The massive sunspot and numerous filaments made it even better. A few locals stopped by to take a look. Had hoped for more, but... so it goes. Hope everyone else had good conditions, as well. Best sky event I've seen since the fantastic fireball Oct. 2. But I may be saying that for a long time! Not a bad event. No surprises that turnout at the museum for SLAS's eclipse watch was not what it was for the Venus transit but even so the museum estimated attendance at over 500. There were clouds but not so thick that we could not see the Sun. Even in Ha the prominences were plainly visible. On the plus side if it had been completely clear we'd of all gotten sunburned. :) Lots of fun public. And the museum even fed the volunteers. Here's a shot I took right at maximum eclipse showing those on the lower level (anyone happen to get pictures on the upper level?): http://slas.us/slasbooks/eclipsewatch.jpg Looking forward to 2017, patrick On 20 Oct 2014, at 23:17, CJ Cottrill <cjcottrill@gmail.com> wrote:
