Did anyone attend Saturday's sun party? I am wondering how it went, how many people came with scopes, how many of the public? I saw an announcement in the Trib. Did anyone see it posted in the Des News? The Des News doesn't seem to be advertising our public parties. -A
Please let me know whether anybody notified the Deseret News. If not, we need to be a little more active there; if so, I will let an editor know about the failing. Joe, I send notices to James Thalman at jthalman@desnews.com. And given news of layoffs and reassignments there, I also send releases to the city desk's assignment editor, Greg Kratz, at gkratz@desnews.com. -A

Thanks, Rodger! It is nice to know that so many showed up with their scopes. I haven't seen the sun through a scope for awhile now, but I love to watch it as it changes right before my eyes. No sun spots? Aren't we headed into an active spot season after a dry spell? -A
No sun spots when they should be making a reappearance MAY mean that we're heading into another "Maunder Minimum". NASA Science News posted an article on this lack of activity at http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2008/11jul_solarcycleupdate.htm --- On Sun, 7/20/08, Ann House <ann@annhouse.org> wrote: From: Ann House <ann@annhouse.org> Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Sun Party Report? 2010-2012 is likely the time frame for high solar activity.
Thanks, Rodger!

Ann, I stopped by for a couple hours. It had good support by SLAS Members, 10-12 scopes, but seemed like public was sparse, maybe 50 visitors in all. Seems like public are generally passer-bys. Erik
