Mat and I are going to either site 1 or site 2 on Forest Road 006 as seen on my blog: http://jaysastronomyobservingblog.blogspot.com/2011/12/vernon-reservoir-and-... Were leaving the Herriman area at 5:00p.m. so won't get out there until 6:15p.m. or so. Moon will come up around 11:00p.m. so we can get 4 hours of observing. Temperatures are cold, very cold around 0 degrees F to 5 degrees F but humidity there is around 50%, lowest of all sites. If you want to join us feel free to let me know and you can meet us in Lehi or out at the LDS Church Parking Lot in Cedar Fort which is right off the Highway 73. If you want to find the locations we'll be at FR 006 Observing Site 1 or 2. Here is my Google Map with the sites: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=211755030117194028721.00049324662bf653d3... I'll have my propane heater so if you get cold you can get warm, and I'm sure Mat will bring his. -- Jay Eads
Jay, This makes me very happy that I hunt meteorites instead of stars! :-) -Barrett

Barrett, maybe you should share news of your newly acquired meteor hunting tool with the list (and then we can go practice formation bowling ball drops). patrick :) On 13 Jan 2012, at 10:08, Barrett wrote:

Well...OK....If I must. Just bought a "new-to-me" airplane. It's a Piper Cherokee 180. With it being low-wing, I'm not sure how many bowling balls I'll be throwing out of it though. Probably wasn't the right pick for a meteorite hunting plane, as it fairly fast and low wing, but it can get me to the area of a meteorite fall fairly quick. At any rate, I'm having fun with it, at least until my "flying budget" run out! It would seem to me that the spinning thing on the front of the plane would be hazardous to pedestrians though. Lol ...."Who said that I need a license to fly?" I do it every day on the interstate! :-) -Barrett -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Patrick Wiggins Sent: Friday, January 13, 2012 8:03 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: [Utah-astronomy] New meteorite hunting toy (Was: Observing Tonight south of Vernon) Barrett, maybe you should share news of your newly acquired meteor hunting tool with the list (and then we can go practice formation bowling ball drops). patrick :)

Very nice! A Cherokee 180 should be fairly economical too. Where are you keeping it? ________________________________ From: Barrett <BarrettWF@comcast.net> To: 'Utah Astronomy' <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, January 14, 2012 9:18 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] New meteorite hunting toy Well...OK....If I must. Out at U42, in D-14. Last time I was out there, EVERY plane on the line was a Piper low-wing! -Barrett -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Brent Watson Sent: Saturday, January 14, 2012 10:37 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] New meteorite hunting toy Very nice! Jay: This cries out for GPS coordinates. Do you have them, or is there a way to get them from Google Maps?
