Re: [Utah-astronomy] Why astrophotography?
I'm afraid I'm a little low tec when it comes to astro-photography. Like Daniel, I find what Tyler, David and Patrick do to be a little too expensive. Therefore, I'm limited to my Canon Rebel XTi and a simple zoom lens. While other SLAS members were at the Pit-n-Pole, Capitol Reef, SPOC or in Steve Fisher's yard, I ventured on over to a local public park to get this shot of the moon and Venus this evening. http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=3425
That's a really nice, smooth view, Michael. These were shot with a canon digital rebel...model right above the XTi - and a simple zoom lens. http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=2127&g2_imageViewsIndex=1 http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=2069&g2_imageViewsIndex=1 You don't need a high dollar mount to do tracking for wide filed shots. There are a few very affordable table top models that work great. I have done what I do on a very small budget. From what you have...add a laptop, a mount, and a scope. The most expensive piece of equipment I own by far, is the Atlas EQ-G mount which was $1100.00. A lot of people have these just for observing to begin with. You can get into this hobby on a very limited budget. The mount I started with, and had a lot of success was a 250.00 ebay special. Cool shot, BTW. Cheers David On 5/15/2010 9:15 PM, M Wilson wrote:

I didn't go to Pit n Pole since no one had contacted me for this evening. I drove out past SPOC to the Lakeside Site and up the hill and here I just finished up for the evening. All packed up, snuggled in and reading email before going to bed. I have some shots of the moon and Venus also I'll post up. It was a good night with pretty low humidity until the end when it shut me down about 30 minutes ago. I hope everyone, no matter where they were and what they were doing had an enjoyable evening. Good night. On Sat, May 15, 2010 at 10:15 PM, M Wilson <astro_outwest@yahoo.com> wrote:
